GE Monogram Radios were made by Maxon. When they originally came out, we use to joke that GE's bottom of the line radio, was Maxon's top of the line model.
This web page will attempt to provide some information about the radios and programming equipment required. If you have any additions or corrections, please contact getech@hallelectronics.com.
Here are a few pages already on this site that detail the model numbers, and GE publication numbers.

Programming Hardware
PC Based
The Monogram programming setup consists of a Programming cable that plugs
directly into the parallel port of a computer. The standard GE RIB TQ3370 is NOT
used with the conventional Maxon/Monogram products. The TQ3376 is a dual headed
cable. One connector is used with the portable and plugs into the small round
mic connector. The connector is made by Hirose, and can be purchased at Digi-Key.
The other connector is a six? pin Molex connector that plugs into the Mobile
radio. This does not plug into the microphone connector, on the front. The
connector is located inside the radio, and is accessed by removing the bottom?
cover.
The Maxon version of the PC based programming setup, consists of SMP4000? interface cable for the portable, and SMP4000? for the mobile. Both of these cables have the level shifting circuitry inside the DB25 connector hood. The Maxon cables plug into a serial port of a computer.
Prom Burner
There is a third method of programming this radio. Maxon also had a hardware
based "standalone" programmer. The SMP4000 can program several models
of conventional radios. GE called it MHTS3R. Vx.x is the latest version of
software I have heard of. No info on upgrading that prom. This will also program
these other Maxon Radios.? SP2000, SM4000, SP5050. Accessory cables used with
this are as follows....?
Programming Software
The GE software is TQ3375 and is not compatible with the Maxon cables. The Maxon software is SMP???? and is not compatible with the GE cable. There seems to be no difference between the GE version of the radio, and the Maxon version, other than cosmetics. The radios may be a different color, or the speaker grille has a different texture, but both "brands" of radio seem to program fine with either setup.

Programming Hardware
EMP EDACS Monogram Portable, and the EMM EDACS Monogram Mobile, are programmed using the TQ3370 RIB. The EMP programming cable is RPM1132473/1 and the Mobile cable is RPM1132510/1.
XPE and XME programming cables connect directly to the Com Port. The RPM1132848/11 cable is used with the XPE portable. This same cable, with the adapter RPM1132848/12, connects to the XME mobile
Programming Software
The EDACS version of the ProGrammer software (TQ3385 / AE/LZY213766) is used with all of the EDACS Monogram products.
The EMP and EMM radios are dual mode, and can also work with GMARC VE trunking systems. Programming software for this mode is DOS only and is part number TQ3346.
XPE The XPE portables look similar to the Maxon SL500/SL600 portables. The XPE was available in 148-174 Mhz, 400-512 MHz and 800 MHz bands. |
EMP This radio is an 800 MHz trunked portable. It is a dual format radio, and can be used with EDACS or GEMARC VE trunking. It looks the same as the 800 LTR portable discussed above.
